This story starts off slow-paced like the community in which it is set in. Dan Harter, the local sheriff, is a widower raising a teenage daughter on his own while trying to keep the towns’ single women at bay. As sheriff, his major task is fielding calls about a marauding herd of razorbacks that have been bothering a local farmer. It all changes when he gets a call to investigate the brutal death of a young teen. Blue Moon Rising is a dramatic thriller, full of twists and turns that takes you on a roller coaster ride as the body count grows, and you are rocketed toward a climactic razorback attack scene.
